FLYING WITH CONDORS IN COLCA CANYON

Colca Canyon is twice the depth of the Grand Canyon in America and home to the majestic condors. We endured a rough road up to Condor Cross, made bearable by the wonderful views along the way.

The local population are mostly farmers who still use the original Inca terraces which are about 500 years old. It would be impossible to use modern farming techniques as the terraces are inaccessible to machinery and all the work is still done by hand and by using donkeys and oxen.

We were lucky to see two condors fairly close up as often tourists come to Condor Cross and stay for hours only to get a glimpse of one in the distant horizon.

We stayed in a wonderful lodge with its own hot spring baths cut into the rocks by the river. The children had a fabulous time exploring the grounds and skipping stones.

Hi Folks!
Have you been served Guinea Pig on the menu yet? Louisa said she had some, just before descending over the Andes and eating Pihrana from the low land rivers on the eastern side. We also sailed across Lake Titicaca to the Island of the Sun. The local's headgear was different there too, all bowler hats with pink ribbons!
Keep chewing the coca leaves when you up above 4000. It is th only relief from Altitude headaches!
