JAIPUR AND THE JUMPING OFF POINT FOR OUR RAJASTHANI TOUR

Jaipur is called the "Pink City" as most of the buildings are made of sandstone. We had a very busy time in Jaipur as there are so many interesting things to see.
The first site we visited was the City Palace and the Hawa Mahal seen here, which allowed the ladies of the court to watch what was happening in the market place below without been seen in return.

The palace has a fantastic display of Rajput and Mughul paintings and royal apparel and armoury which facinated the young boys!

We then visited the Jantar Mantar, a park adjaecent to the Palace with astronomical and astrological instruments, including the largest sundial in the world, accurate to 2 seconds. This of course gave David a few ideas for the gardens at the hall!

We then went to Amber Fort, the old city of Jaipur before the new City Palace was built in the 18th c. The approach was done on the back of elephants and up to the gates of the old fortification.

Rocky and I are very excited about your wonderful adventures as we follow along with your blog and hope to hear about your travels in person in the near future. Do you still expect to be in California sometime this summer and if so when and for how long? Possibly we could meet up with you for a few days. Let us know. Love to you all, Heather & Rocky
